The Bang Bang Caravel 4

The Bang Bang Caravel finale presented a grand, chaotic mix of weird and wonderful acts from the wider Cross St Studios community, concluding with an afterparty hosted by Dj Two Fingers. The extravanganza included an experimental solo performance by Rose Rowan; a multimedia collaboration between Rachel Ruckstuhl-Mann and Naressa Gamble (Wauckland), combining sewing machines and video; a live operatic piece by erika with piano accompaniment; and Gina Jonus' hip-hop dance-off In The Streets (based on the works of Keith Haring). Other acts included a collaboration between local group Growl with the Literatti and Scotland’s Texture; original music from Phil Dryson; and a final electro-rap performance by Smoking Hot Bitch Fight featuring Imogen Taylor and Flick (Matt Brennan).

The Bang Bang Caravel was an immersive, multi-disciplinary programme, presented as part of the Auckland Fringe Festival across four consecutive Saturdays, open to audiences on a koha (donation) basis. The series featured a strange collection of original theatre, live music, short film, visual art, lighting and sound sculptures, as well as unpredictable performances—all described as being “as curious as the sea”.
