Woman vs. Moustache
–
Woman vs. Moustache was a week-long exhibition curated by Hazel Davies, featuring a collection of multimedia art by young, women-identifying artists. The conceptual framework was built around the moustache and things men can do that women cannot. Subverting these themes, the works discussed the nature of the female gaze, questioning its qualities—is it romantic, relational, curious?—in contrast to the commonly understood sexual male gaze.
Alongside paintings, illustrations and sculpture, Woman vs. Moustache also featured interactive elements such as a moustache with every catalogue, as well as live music on the opening night.
