ONE NIGHT STAND
For one night only, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland artist Samuel Montgomery exhibited Holga images captured during his time in Japan. The exhibition presented a candid, lo-fi look at Japanese street life, focusing on evocative urban moments, brightly lit vending machines and candid portraits, all shot with the distinctive square format and soft focus typical of the Holga camera.
Montgomery, a fine arts graduate from Unitec who pursued postgraduate studies at Elam School of Fine Arts in installation and sculpture, uses photography as a spontaneous extension of his wider creative practice. His work often involves exploring immersive environments, collaborative furniture making and crafting pedestals for artists like Tyrone te Waa, showcasing his versatility across conceptual and practical modes of art.
