Newton Gully Screen Society 4

The fourth event in the Newton Gully Screen Society series was dedicated to the influential filmmaker Peter Greenaway, featuring a screening of his controversial film, The Baby of Mâcon (1993). Set in 17th-century Italy, the film is a dark, baroque satire that chronicles the chaotic, sexually charged fervor surrounding a miraculous birth; its graphic content led to international censorship and walkouts upon its release.

The Newton Gully Screen Society offered a free film screening series, generally presented fortnightly on Sundays in the gallery space, running from April to June 2008. These screenings continued the experimental film programming established by the Cinema Obscura events curated by Sean Monro throughout 2007, maintaining a focus on obscure and challenging cinematic experiences outside the mainstream.
