Newton Gully Screen Society 6

To conclude its Autumn film season, the Newton Gully Screen Society presented a free variety night titled Desilenced Cinema. A fusion of film and live music, the evening featured The Benka Boradovsky Bordello Band performing to Charlie Chaplin, John Bell and Fritterhead accompanying a 1930s special effects film and The Parasitic Fantasy Band presenting Live Film. The night also included a screening of an old black-and-white 16mm experimental Butoh dance film shot in Japan, introduced by its Director of Photography, Ian Powell.

The Newton Gully Screen Society offered a free film screening series, generally presented fortnightly on Sundays in the gallery space, running from April to June 2008. These screenings continued the experimental film programming established by the Cinema Obscura events curated by Sean Monro throughout 2007, maintaining a focus on obscure and challenging cinematic experiences outside the mainstream.
