SOU'WESTER

SOU'WESTER was the debut solo exhibition by Johnny Egdell—an alumnus of the Elam School of Fine Arts and a respected film location scout in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland—that presented a collection of hand-printed photographs of people and places captured in 2007.

The entire process to create Egdell’s work, from shooting on 35mm film to darkroom processing and printing, was carried out completely by hand, showing a commitment to traditional analogue methods, while the exhibition's title reflected the artist’s interest in the country's coastline and the rugged characters that inhabit it. SOU'WESTER was supported by Lothlorien Winery and Tatty's Designer Recycle.
