The Bang Bang Caravel 1

Kicking off the four-part series, the first Bang Bang Caravel event presented a highly varied programme of music and improvised performance. It featured four-piece pirate skiffle band Swampy Tonk, known for blending rockabilly, blues, country and pirate folk; Ōtautahi Christchurch rapper Dino Roc; the musical collaboration Tonton Macoutes, featuring Fred Woodhouse, Tim Gentles and Will Gresson; and the comedy segment Late Night Campfire, featuring Mark Scott and Steven Lyons.

The Bang Bang Caravel was an immersive, multi-disciplinary programme, presented as part of the Auckland Fringe Festival across four consecutive Saturdays, open to audiences on a koha (donation) basis. The series featured a strange collection of original theatre, live music, short film, visual art, lighting and sound sculptures, as well as unpredictable performances—all described as being “as curious as the sea”.
